Mosquito Control

When a mosquito feeds on blood, it also swallows any viruses or parasites living in the blood. These viruses and parasites can be transferred to the next person the mosquito bites through its saliva. Any disease that is spread in this way from mosquito to human (or animal) is known as a "mosquito-borne disease". While the mosquito may not be affected, these mosquito-borne diseases can cause immense suf fering for humans. 390 million people are infected each year with dengue, and hundreds of thousands more are affected by Zika, chikungunya and yellow fever. Common types of mosquito-borne diseases include malaria, yellow fever & zika by Anopheles mosquito, dengue & chikungunya by Aedes mosquito.
TREATMENT
Destruction of larvae (Anti larval treatment): Spraying of mosquito larvicidal oil / target specific insecticide on infested stagnant water bodies such as puddle, septic tanks, drainages, nalas, accumulated rain water etc
Destruction of adult mosquitoes (Adulticidal treatment - Spraying & Fogging): Spraying of residual insecticide will be done on the resting places of mosquitoes such as outer wall of the built up structure (Approximate 2 meter band on the wall & floor from the external perimeter wall & floor junction), surrounding herbs (Bushy vegetation), entry / exit doors, window, exhaust openings etc. Fogging: The adulticidal (Spraying) treatment can be supplemented with fogging with a suitable chemical during dusk hours when the mosquito/flying insect activity is maximum.

Are mosquitoes a real health threat?

Mosquitoes transmit human diseases which are potentially fatal.

What do you use to treat for mosquitoes?

Many homeowners erroneously believe that all pest management professionals do is spray chemicals to treat their homes. This is simply not true anymore. Many pest management professionals today use an Integrated Pest Management or IPM approach. IPM controls pests by getting rid of the three things they need to survive: food, shelter and water. Consumer education is a vital part of any IPM program. This approach consists of inspection, identification of the pests, deployment of two or more control measures and evaluation of effectiveness through follow-up inspections.

How often should a property be treated for mosquitoes?

The length of effectiveness is dependent upon several variables including temperature, humidity, surfaces treated, materials or control methods employed. The time lapse between two treatments depends upon these factors and specifically the materials used.

What can homeowners do to reduce the risks from mosquitoes?

There are many ways a homeowner can reduce the risks from mosquitoes:

  • Eliminate or reduce mosquito breeding sites by replacing all stagnant water at least once a week. This includes bird baths, ponds and swimming pools.
  • Remove unneeded vegetation or trash from around any stagnant water sources that cannot be changed, dumped or removed.
  • Introduce mosquito-eating fish such as guppy fish in stagnant water.
  • Screen windows, doors, and other openings with fine mesh, sealing around all screen edges and keeping doors and windows shut to prevent entry.
  • Avoid going outdoors when and where mosquitoes are most active: during dusk or dawn.
  • Use repellent on exposed skin whenever and wherever mosquitoes are likely to bite.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long-legged pants, preferably treated with a repellent as well.
